A Valentine’s Ball

The lovers arrive faces flushed

from the cold

The table is set

with plenty of deep-fried food and chocolate and

heart-smart salads on the side.

Cathy and Heathcliff both are there.

Having realized it is the 21st century,

they have completed anger management,

renounced co-dependency, and now

pour their passion into healthy things

like career and charitable causes

and eating salads – practicing forgiveness.

They do full-body workouts too, and wonder why

they are together. Across the room

Heloise has abandoned her habit;

Abelard reclaimed his member.

They dance every moon dance each

grateful, breathing

the other in

barely moving.

Paradise enough.
